President and CEO of FEDECRÉDITO (Federación de Cajas de Crédito y Bancos de los Trabajadores) in El Salvador, Macario Armando Rosales Rosa graduated in Public Accountancy and in Jurisprudence and Social Sciences. He was born in San Sebastián, Dept. of San Vicente from a rural teachers and entrepreneurial family where he learned all types of trades and a commitment to study and become a professional.
He has 35 years’ experience in the Fedecrédito System. In 1992, he founded the Soyapango Workers’ Bank and he served as the General Manager Soyapango Caja de Crédito (credit bank) for 25 years. From 1999 to 2001, he was Owner and Head of the Board of Directors of FONAVIPO (the National Popular Housing Fund). From 2009–2012 he was the Chairman of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Group of WSBI (The World Savings and Retail Banking Institute) with HQ in Brussels, Belgium.
He was elected as Vice-President and Treasurer for WSBI for the 2012-2015 perios and relected for the 2015-2018 period in the General Assembly of WSBI that took place in Washington in September 2015.
FEDECRÉDITO is the federation of independent Savings & Worker’s Banks; its main purpose is to foster the development of an efficient, solvent, and competitive system of savings banks and workers’ bank such as Sistema de Cajas de Crédito and Bancos de los Trabajadores, dedicated to providing financial services in urban and rural areas mainly to low and medium income families, as well as to micro, small, and medium sized businesses operating in various economic sectors in addition to the employees. FEDECREDITO has more than 75 years of experience in the financial market, by making available to Salvadoran families the largest service network in the country, with more than 630 service points in 188 municipalities, out of the country’s 262. It has the largest distribution network for remittance payments in the country.
