Nic Wasunna: Market Engagement Manager, Africa/ GSMA Mobile Money Programme
Nic has over 12 years’ commercial, operational and strategy experience in the mobile industry. He has vast experience in mobile money innovation, developing and supporting a wide range of successful mobile money products and services.
In his current role at the GSMA leads engagements in sub-Saharan Africa, working closely with mobile money providers and industry stakeholders. He also led the Mobile Money Interoperability projects in Rwanda and Uganda, supporting delivery in Madagascar. He is recently completed a case study research on digitizing government payments via Mobile Money which will help both mobile money providers and governments appreciate the benefits of digitising P2G payments.
Prior to joining GSMA, Nic worked at Safaricom in various roles, most notably in M-PESA, where he played a leading role in developing the successful merchant payments service – Lipa na M-PESA, as well as leading the channel strategy for a host of other M-PESA products and services.
Nic graduated with a specialization in Sociology & Mathematics, is a PRINCE2 practitioner. He is currently pursuing an MBA at Strathmore Business School.
