Gustavo is the Executive Vice President, Head of Latin America Region for First Data. Gustavo, a well-respected industry expert in financial services, joined First Data in 2015 to head the company’s Latin America Region where First Data provides payment technology solutions to more than 70 financial institutions and 240,000 merchants throughout Latam as well as the Caribbean. With offices in Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Mexico City, First Data employs more than 1,500 people in the region.
Based in Sao Paulo in Brazil, where he has strong ties with business and government communities, Gustavo will use his extensive experience to bring powerful insights and capabilities to help our clients in these key markets. Marin also serves as a member of First Data’s Management Committee.
Having graduated in Finance and Accounting from Universidad de la Repubica – Uruguay, Gustavo began his career at Citibank in 1981. He served as Senior Country Officer for Citibank in Paraguay and Peru during the 1990’s, where he was responsible for building and managing regional presence and delivering global capabilities locally.
Gustavo was appointed CEO of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group for Latin America, where he was also a member of Citi’s Latin America Management Committee and Citi’s Senior Leadership Committee. In 2001, he was appointed CEO of Citibank Brazil, responsible for all business segments in the country including Institutional Clients Group, Global Consumer Group and Citi Private Bank.
He is chairman of Santander Asset Management (SAM) Brazil and a board member of Santander Asset Management UK, the holding company of the SAM Group. He served on the Conselho de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (CDES) and became a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Federation of Banks and advisory board of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil.
Gustavo also served on the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Futures Exchange and as a member of the Client Advisory Board of Thomson Reuters.
