Jose Joao Gornçalves Rocha, know by all his colleagues as “Rocha” has been the General Manager of NOVACAMBIOS-lnstituçao de Pagamento,S.A. in Lisbon since the year 2000. As one of the original founders of Novacâmbios, Rocha was part of the group of specialist Portuguese currency traders that joined forces with the historical expertise of Montepio Geral, Portugal’s oldest bank, and opened their first exchange office in Rossio Square in Lisbon.
After setting up seven branches in mainland Portugal (Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Braga and Amadora), Novacâmbios opened their first international branch in Luanda, Angola in 2002, a presence that has grown to more than 20 branches in this African country. In November 2003, Novacâmbios continued its internationalization process, opening its first branch on the Champs Elysées in Paris. In 2007 the company opened its first branch in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek and in February 2011 it opened its first branch in Tete, Mozambique.
