During his tenure at Barri, Alberto and his team have developed an entire suite of MSB services beyond remittances that encompasses check cashing, bill payment, money orders, currency exchange, and a few other non-MBS services directed at the same underbanked consumer with focus in the Hispanic demographic, partnering with numerous other MSB players to create a synergistic and highly cooperative environment. As the leader of a small-to-medium size enterprise, the challenges that Alberto has faced with Barri over the past few years, resemble to a large degree the challenges of the industry as a whole: access to banking services, negative industry stigma, confusing and potentially contradicting regulations, inability to attract top talent, rapidly changing technologies, etc.
Prior to joining the Barri team, Alberto held senior positions at Western Union with management and marketing responsibilities for the company’s US-to-Latin America businesses, based out of Florida and California. Prior to Western Union, Alberto worked at Procter & Gamble with brand management responsibilities in Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela.
Alberto holds a BA in Business Administration from Universidad Panamericana and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is the Chairman of the Money Service Business Association (MSBA). He is also CAMS certified anti-money laundering specialist. Alberto is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently resides in Houston, together with his wife Lucia, and their two children, Nicolas (13) and Sebastian (11).
